I began making goat milk skin care products in 2009, but my story really begins before then. When I was nine, my family bought our first registered dairy goats. For me, it was love at first sight. I spent as much time as I could outside playing with the goat kids, running around the pasture with the herd, or milking. I also had the un-fun task of cleaning out the barn with my siblings, but hey, it all comes with farm life I guess...
Growing up on a dairy goat farm, I traveled with my family every fall to different fairs in the Southeast showing our Saanen dairy goats. I loved the competition, caring for the animals and the opportunity to travel (although not so much the large crowds at the fairs). At one fair I saw another "goat family" who made and sold their own goat milk soaps. As a sixteen year old, I realized that might be a way to use the resources I had to start making a little money of my own.
It took me a few years to actually step out and make my first batch of soap, but in the meantime I began learning how to do it and researching the benefits of different oils on the skin. When I began making soap, I instantly fell in love with the finished product, knowing I could never go back to commercial soaps again. From there I branched out and began experimenting with lotion and lip balm - two products I am very picky about! After much trial, I came up with recipes for both that even I could not complain about.
Because I love to create, research and try out the benefits of different oils, I soon had much more soap, lotion, and lip balm than me, my family and friends could use, so I began selling online and at the local farmers market.
